Dr. Peter Urban is a highly experienced ophthalmic clinician and surgeon. He is a pioneer in modern cataract and refractive surgery. He personally developed and operated some of the first outpatient eye surgery centers in the State of Florida , including the first centers in Brevard and Polk counties. Dr. Urban has performed more than 40,000 vision correction surgical procedures without a single occurrence of loss of vision.
Dr. Urban is a man of varied interests and an eclectic background. While attending the University of Illinois, Dr. Urban worked as a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver and as an aircraft ferry pilot, delivering newly purchased aircraft to customers around the country and the Caribbean .
A man who loves his country, Peter Urban enlisted for service in the U.S. Army at the time of the Vietnam War. After completing basic training at Fort Polk , Louisiana , Peter volunteered for Army Aviation Training. He completed Primary Flight School at Fort Walters, Texas and graduated at the top of his class after completion of advanced flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama . Peter also attended Chinook Flight School prior to being sent to Pleiku in the Central Highlands of the Republic of South Vietnam. During his tour of duty, Peter's assignments included test flying reconstructed combat damaged helicopters, recovery of downed aircraft and crews, medical evacuation of wounded U.S. and Vietnamese troops, and resupply of combat forces in the field. Peter also piloted an OH-6 Scout Helicopter as part of a Hunter/Killer Team, and participated in covert U.S. and Vietnamese Special Forces missions.
For his accomplishments, Peter was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in Ground Combat and the Air Medal with first thru tenth (10) Oak Leave Cluster.
Peter and his wife, Brenda, a Registered Nurse, are the proud parents of a daughter, Lauren, who is currently attending college. Lauren, an accomplished musician, was also a state gymnastics champion and a competitive diver.
When asked about his life philosophy, Dr. Urban replied, "I think that would be best stated by the teachings of Philippians 2:3, which states, Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." |
